If a spill becomes a stain, it will be much more difficult to remove. Whether a new stain or an old one, we have some tips and advice to help you clean it up.

Carpet Cleaning Techniques

There are three important steps to follow for carpet stain removal, ideally before it has a chance to set in your carpet.

1. ApplyDampen a clean, white (not printed) paper towel with a cleaning solution (see below) and moisten the carpet with it. Avoid thoroughly wetting the carpet since this can damage the carpet and backing.
2. BlotAbsorb the excess liquid from the carpet by pressing straight down with a clean, dry, white paper towel. Do not rub. If necessary, place a half-inch thick pad of clean, dry white paper towels with a weight on top and leave overnight.
3. ScrapeGently scrape the soiled area with the blunt edge of a spoon. Scrape from the outside edge of the spot toward the center.
