So we thought we would take some time to address some questions that we frequently hear about wool carpet.

Q: How long does wool carpet usually last?

A: If you are looking for a good investment in terms of carpet, wool is an excellent choice. It can last up to 25 years with proper care. It is naturally resistant to crushing and abrasion, and wool carpet is known to age gracefully as the years go on.

Q: How do I clean wool carpet?

A: Wool carpet is pretty easy to clean. Because wool carpet doesn’t accumulate static electricity, it does not attract dust. So that means if you vacuum it on a weekly basis and have it professionally cleaned every few years, you should be able to enjoy your wool carpet for a long time. It is also stain resistant, so if you spill something, just blot it up as soon as possible afterwards and it generally will not soak into and stain the carpeting.

Q: I’ve heard wool carpet is fire resistant. Is this true?

A: Yes. Because of the composition of the wool fibers, wool carpet is naturally fire resistant. It is difficult to ignite and if it does ignite, the flames will not spread that quickly. Plus, it will not melt if it is ignited. This makes it an excellent choice for children’s rooms or pretty much any room in your home.

Q: I have allergies. Is wool carpet a good choice for someone like me?

A: Yes. Because wool carpet does not accumulate dust, it’s a great choice for allergy sufferers or for those who are sensitive to dust. And it does not promote the growth of bacteria, nor does it give off any harmful emissions that might also cause breathing problems. Wool fibers are long and coarse, and that means that they cannot be inhaled, which is a great benefit for people who have asthma.
