Preparing for Carpet Installation

September 28th, 2016

You’ve researched, looked at samples, compared, discussed with the family, and have finally decided on the new carpeting you want for your home. Congratulations! Now it’s time to get it installed! For expert carpet installation near Maple Grove, you can count on Hopkins Carpet One. We have a professional installation team with the knowledge and tools needed to get you carpet installed correctly so it will last for years to come.

We want to share some tips and things for you to know as installation day arrives, so the process will go as smoothly as possible. Here are the basic steps for carpet installation. Some you will do yourself and some our team will do. Some things, like pulling up the existing carpeting, can go either way. We can do this for you and properly dispose of the old carpet and pad, or you can handle that task yourself if you’d like.

Carpet Installation

Getting Ready
You will want to move all the furniture and other items from the room or rooms getting the new carpet. Be sure any breakable items are stored safely out of the way. Closet floors should be cleared and at least lower built-in shelves or tables should be cleaned off. Wiring for TVs, DVD players, stereos or computers should be detached and stored out of the way. Once the floor is completely clear, you will want to vacuum the old carpet thoroughly to minimize airborne dust and particles.

Removing Old Carpet
You can remove the old carpet and pad yourself or we can handle this for you. All the old carpet and pad will need to be completely removed along with any nails or other protrusions. It is important to note here that the subfloor must be structurally sound before installing new carpet on top of it. If there’s any damage, it will need to be repaired prior to carpet installation. If the subfloor is good to go, it will just need to be vacuumed to minimize dirt and dust.

Another side note here. If you have our team remove the old carpet and pad, we can also dispose of it for you, saving you the task of hauling it off somewhere. Of course, if you have a use for the old carpet, you can always keep it, or part of it, as well.

Installation Day
Our professional installation team will arrive with all the knowledge, tools and supplies necessary to get your carpet installed. We will need access to electrical power outlets, so if that will be an issue, please let us know. Otherwise, we should have everything else that’s needed.

Our team will make sure the subfloor is ready before laying down the carpet pad followed by the new carpet. They will make sure everything fits and adheres properly. You will have a chance to inspect the job once it’s completed to be sure you are satisfied.

Most jobs will be finished in one day. However, if it’s a larger project or several rooms are involved, it may take a few days to complete the carpet installation.

Once all the carpet is down and our team has cleared all their tools and made sure you are satisfied, you will want to vacuum the new carpet before moving your furniture and items back into the room.

Now, you can sit back, relax and enjoy your new carpeting!
