If you damage your vinyl flooring, don’t worry! It may be fixable. Below are some ways to fix scratches and dents in vinyl flooring.

Fixing Scratches on Vinyl Floors

Did you scratch your vinyl flooring? You may be able to fix it by following this scratch repair process. This technique is applicable for sheet vinyl, flexible vinyl planks/tiles and rigid vinyl planks/tiles.

First, you will need the following items:

  • Abrasive pad
  • Wax sticks
  • Stain pens
  • Heat gun
  • Clean rag
  • Furniture paste wax
  • Isopropyl alcohol

Then, follow these steps:

  • Remove loose material using a blue or lighter abrasive pad.
  • Fill the scratch with coordinated tinted wax sticks.
  • Melt the wax with a heat gun until the scratch is filled entirely.
  • Remove excess wax using a clean rag and buff the surface.
  • Use the stain pens to add additional color if needed.
  • Wipe down the area with a clean rag.
  • Finish with furniture paste wax.

Fixing Dents in Vinyl Floors

If you get a dent in your vinyl flooring, it is possible to repair it. The technique outlined below is applicable for sheet vinyl, flexible vinyl planks/tiles and rigid vinyl planks/tiles. 

Tools you will need:

  • Heat gun
  • Spoon

Steps to follow:

  • Heat the vinyl by continuously moving the heat gun over the dent about 6” away from the surface.
  • Be careful not to burn the vinyl.
  • Use the rounded end of a metal spoon to push the vinyl in a circular motion.
  • Continue to work the surface until the dent is visibly gone (being careful not to burn the vinyl).
